Your LinkedIn profile is not just a resume online! This is your professional presence to the world. The best part is, you can present yourself to the world exactly how you want (just keep it real and honest)!
Your LinkedIn profile is the best opportunity online to put your professional foot forward to the world, showing the world what you do, what you are about, what you are focused on now, what you are great at and so much more. Do you use your LinkedIn Profile this way? Or is your profile a bland resume or a poor expression of who you are and what you are capable of?
The sad fact is that for most people on LinkedIn, their profile is an extra task, not something that is important. Do you know how many people look for you on LinkedIn prior to a meeting, an interview, before getting hired or before landing that big deal? Look at the “Who’s Viewed Your Profile” section on LinkedIn (on the right side of the Home Page just below the big square advertisement). This will allow you to see who is looking at your LinkedIn profile.
Take a moment to look and let me know what you find. Some will see private users looking at your account, others will see the name and information about who is looking at your profile. The User Privacy Settings determine whether viewers appear as Anonymous or with all their information available. The bottom line is when that big client prospect, employer, business partner, or sponsor is looking at your profile, your executive team’s profile, or your sales representatives LinkedIn profile, what are they seeing? Is it represented as you want? Does it reflect the true value and professional presence of your company? If not, you’re not alone!
After reading this article, take a moment to implement some of the ideas you read about. Remember that the LinkedIn Profile is about you; your career history, education, interests, and other content you may want to publish. To receive the most benefits of using LinkedIn for business, it is important to have your profile 100% complete and optimized.
To ensure that your LinkedIn profile is 100% complete, you should follow the steps in the “Edit my Profile” area on the upper right that says what level you are completed. If you are not 100%, follow the links below the completion category until complete. Now just because the profile says it’s complete, this does not mean it is optimized! Some of the areas that can be complete, but need optimization are:
- Professional Headline
- Profile photo (see LinkedIn Photo)
- Descriptions for your Website Links
- Current Headline/Title
- Summary
- Applications: Skills, Video, Blog, Books, etc.
- 500+ Connections
- 10+ Recommendations
That is the very basic of what your LinkedIn profile needs to have completed to be completely Optimized. For the best results in using LinkedIn for business or professional uses, it is critical to get your LinkedIn profile optimized. To help you understand how to optimize your LinkedIn profile we gathered a number of articles and videos on the subject.
